Week 4 Tonight

by crawlinboston

The season continues tonight with Week 4 / Mustache week action. Unfortunately I just checked the USPS tracking and the mustaches won’t arrive until tomorrow. So we’re going to postpone Mustache Week until next week.

We raised a good chunk of money at our Beer Pong Tournament on Saturday so we’re on our way to reaching our $300 goal. Tonight we will be giving away the hottest new craze, crazy bands, for every $2.00 towards to Palliny Awards. So please vote tonight. All proceeds benefit The Home for Little Wanderers.

Week 3 Recap

by crawlinboston

The updated standings and pictures are now up

We’re way behind on our fundraising efforts. So next week will be mustache week. Everyone who donates at least $2.00 will receive a fake mustache. Show off your philanthropic side with this stunning new look. So vote next week, get your mustache and make fun of those who don’t have one. All proceeds benefit The Home for Little Wanderers.

You may ask what type of prize you get for winning a Palliny. Our first prize announcement goes to the winner of the MVP award. This individual will receive their own championship belt.

We heard lots of positive feedback about the upcoming mini golf league. We opened up registration to the public earlier this week and teams are filling. Glad to see some of your teams have already signed up (send me your shirt sizes). More info at http://puttinboston.com/

Week 2 Recap

by crawlinboston

Week is all set. The standings and pictures have been updated

If you feel like tagging, pictures are also at http://www.facebook.com/bocceinboston

Excellent job with the shirts yesterday, I love the customization many of your teams have already done.

FYI…on the back of the shirt is a bar meant to put your/team name. It helps with those awkward moments when you see the person you talked to for 20 minutes the week before but now can’t recall their name.

Thanks to those teams that used the beanbag balls on the blue court. I discovered recently that we were missing balls. They’re very expensive and I’ve ordered a new set. I hope they get here in time for next week’s matches but I figured the beanbag ones are better than nothing. And I did quite enjoy the pickup we had afterwards using them. Especially since my team came back from a huge deficit.

Have a fantastic weekend. Week 3 schedule is below. -J

Week 2 of the summer season continues tonight. Please let me know if you can’t make it.

Tonight begins our charity efforts: The Palliny Awards are the Bocce In Boston superlatives.

They’re named after the Pallino ball, the initial ball played to begin a match of bocce.

Individual and team votes can be purchased each week for $.50 each. You can get as many votes as you please. At the end of the season, the winner of the most votes will receive special prizes.

Votes will be posted each week on the website through week 6. Results will then be hidden although you can still vote during the final 2 weeks.

All proceeds from the votes will go towards our charity: The Home for Little Wanderers.

Who is Socialize in Boston? http://socializeinboston.com/

Socialize in Boston is a social networking group that gives professionals a chance to meet new people in a casual and fun atmosphere. People of all ages have gathered to join the bar crawls, and we’ve raised money and goods for local charities. We also spread the word about other similar events we’ve heard about, as well as new places and bar/restaurant specials. We’re bringing people together, one drink at a time for local charities.

What is The Home for Little Wanderers?

A nationally renowned, private, non-profit child and family service agency. It has been part of the Massachusetts landscape for over 200 years, making it the oldest agency of its kind in the nation and one of the largest in New England. Originally founded as a orphanage in 1799 (see history for more details), The Home today plays a leadership role in delivering services to thousands of children and families each year through a system of residential, community-based and prevention programs, direct care services, and advocacy.

How Do I Sign Up?

Registration is done via paypal. We have limited spots available on a first come, first serve basis. Teams are guaranteed to play at least 2 games. Click the link below to sign up. Please  also indicate your shirt size.

Rules

1. Cups are arranged, 6 on a side, in pyramid formation
2. One team of two starts off with two balls. Players throw the ball across the court, trying to get the ball in a cup. When a ball lands in a cup, one player from that side must chug that cup, and it is removed from the play area (pushing it to the side is OK). When both players on a team sink a cup, they get the balls back.
3. Cups are restacked into pyramids when 3 cups remain on a side.
4. If a player, for any reason whatsoever, drops a ball into a cup on his own side, it counts.
5. If the ball is still spinning in the cup, only girls can blow it out.
6. There is a cup of warm water to dip the ball in, in the event that the ball picks up something unpleasant off of the floor.
7. After the last cup is made, the team behind gets 2 shots (one per partner) to try and rebut.
8. No bouncing and No leaning, just shoot the ball in the cup. Your elbow must stay behind the plane of the table. Balls that miss the cup or bounce before hitting the cup are considered dead.
9. If you shoot and you make 2 balls in the same cup before the opposite team takes the cup away, they have to take away 2 additional cups of their choice plus the one you hit.
10. No substitute shooters. You start the game, you finish the game.

Summer League – Registration Extended

by crawlinboston

We had a tremendous amount of teams sign up yesterday. But now we have an odd number of registered teams. So we need one more. Registration will be temporarily extended until we get an even number of teams.

We’re down to the final week for summer registration. We need time to get the shirts made so we can’t extend past that date. We have open spots for teams and individuals looking for teams.

Indoor Bocce has taken the country by storm. After a very successful spring season, we are happy to announce that we will be having a summer session as well. The Bocce In Boston League will be an 8 week season taking place on Wednesday nights. This weeknight league let you show off your bocce skills, raise some money for The Home for Little Wanderers and give you the chance to network with other Bostonians.

Matches will be held on Wednesday nights at Jose McIntyre’s located at 160 Milk Street in the Faneuil Hall / Financial District area. The season will begin on July 7th and go until August 25th. The starting times are at 6:30, 7:15 and 8:00. Registration will be $160 per team (only $5 per person/week). We will also have t-shirts as part of registration costs and an awesome trophy for the winners. Prizes will be given out to other league participants as well.

Congrats to De-BoCce-Ry who won the championship over the Bocced Boob Job team. It was a very fun match to watch.

The NESN.com guy got plenty of info so once his story is posted, I’ll let you know.

Many of you asked me about the status of the Summer. Registration is now open to everyone. So it’s first come, first serve to all. We do have plenty of spots left but don’t wait until the last minute. Registering your team early also gives you priority on shirt color (I know one returning team that has already decided to go with a new look). So keep that in mind as well.

Also, if you don’t have a team but still want to play let me know and I may be able to place you with a team looking to fill a spot.

Registration is here

Pictures from last night are here

See you this Summer
